Having been born and raised in small town West Virginia, the world has never been large enough for fantasy writer Ali Banner. She began reading and writing at a young age in order to expand her surroundings, but it was not until high school that she found her identity within the pages of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. Since then, her world has been limitless.

Thirsting to plant her feet on foreign soil, Ali ventured to Handan, China, in October of 2008 to teach English as a Second Language. For the next two years, she lived and breathed a new culture, embracing both similarities and differences while forming relationships with fascinating people and immersing herself in breathtaking landscapes.  Inspired by these experiences, she returned home with a head full of fantastic characters to meet and extraordinary new worlds to explore.

Sitting once again at the writing desk where she crafted her earliest stories, Ali felt unequipped to tell her tales effectively and thus enrolled in the Creative Writing for Entertaining program at Full Sail University, earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in February of 2016. At the same time, she worked as a copywriter for Dose Media, wrote promotional materials and blog posts for Futureman Gaming on, and penned character portraits for Dungeons and Dragons and Shadowrun campaigns.

These days Ali is happily working on her debut fantasy novel, A Light in the Storm, the story of a goddess-blessed child suffering from amnesia and searching for the key to her identity, which may be the most important weapon for defeating the storm god who threatens her land with darkness.
